Crisis or extremely stressful event in the sex addict's life. Someone, something, or some event has compelled the person to seek help – e.g. a confrontation with the police over sexual acting out in exhibitionistic ways, a spouse had threatened sex addict with a divorce.

• outrageous charges from prostitutes or phone sex calls
• loosing job
• destroying relationship
• disease (indiscriminate sexual contacts)
