Trancelike state / bubble

Back to main page

It is a depersonalized and detached ego state. Sex addict is able to do things that he would not do in normal state of consciousness.

Addicts refer to this trancelike state as "being in my addict" - almost as if the addict part of them had taken over and there were not other parts capable of intervening with the compulsion to be sexual.

The obsessing and ritual lead to a trancelike state that is dissociative and enables the person to act-out without immediate feelings of guilt or remorse. These come later and fuel the addiction cycle to repeat itself.

Sex addicts have experienced severe trauma in their childhoods and consequently have developed the capacity to detach, depersonalize, and take on different ego states even though they may not actually have multiple personalities.

Excessive amounts of preoccupation and fantasy can actually produce a trancelike state, especially when combined with rituals.

This trance-like state intensifies the addict's tendency to objectify people and to numb his own emotions.
