Dear Mental Health Professional:

 

We are writing to you today to inform you about a 12-step recovery group located in <city name> for people who engage in addictive or compulsive sexual behavior.  <12-step group name> is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other so they may overcome their sexual addiction and help others to recover from sexual addiction or dependency. 

<12-step group name> is an international service organization based on the principles and traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous (though we are not affiliated with AA or any other program). 

Many people in our community suffer from the problem of sexual addiction and yet are unaware that <12-step group name> exists and can provide hope for recovery. 

That is why we are writing to you, to make you aware of <12-step group name> as a valuable resource in our community. We have included a brochure that describes sexual addiction in greater detail and discusses the fellowship and the 12-step program of recovery. 

We ask that you file this letter and brochure. 

Where you think it would be appropriate and helpful, please let your patients know about <12-step group name> and how to contact us.  

<12-step group name> can serve as a valuable adjunct to professional therapy.

We rigorously protect the anonymity of our members. All of our weekly meetings here in <city name> are <closed/open> meetings, and times and locations of the meetings are not publicly available.  Individuals who have a desire to stop their compulsive sexual behavior can reach us through a local hotline telephone number: nnn-nnnn. 

A recorder will answer and request that the person leave his or her first name, telephone number and a good time to call. After that, a member of the group will be in contact and set up a preliminary “interview” with the prospective member and take the individual to his or her first meeting.
