“We are only as sick as the secrets we keep." This central tenet of recovery from addiction celebrates the liberating, healing experience of disclosure. But the actual process of revealing sensitive secrets related to addiction can be difficult, even excruciating. With a straightforward, step-by-step approach, Jennifer Schneider and Debra Corley help readers discern the type of information that is advisable to share as well as develop a plan for constructive disclosure. Topics include: what, when, and how to tell, who to involve, what (if anything) to tell children, what information to share at work, church, and in the community. Disclosing Secrets serves as a guidebook for healing as well, offering reassurance that relationships can be repaired and renewed after disclosure.

Dr. Carnes’ popular “New Freedom” lecture is based on the sexual health program Carnes developed for his book, Sexual Anorexia. This two hour lecture traces the history of sex to the present time and shows how to face the challenges of being sexual in our culture. Challenging, warm, and funny, these CDs are a wonderful map to a better sexual life.

Starting Sexual and Relationship Recovery is the first to take techniques used by thousands of recovering sex addicts and show readers, step by step, how to break free of problematic sexual behaviors and live a healthier, more fulfilling life. A task-centered, competency-based, effective approach to recovery from compulsive behaviors. Dr Carnes, through years of research, has found that if recovering addicts did certain tasks, they got better. If they did not, their life would remain problem-filled. Performing these tasks essentially creates skills that enable recovering individuals to manage their illness and to live rich, full, and relapse-free lives - and systematically following this process generates a positive outcome in all but about three percent of cases

This is the first comprehensive volume of the clinical management of sex addiction. Collecting the work of 28 leaders in this emerging field, the editors provide a long-needed primary text about how to approach treatment with these challenging patients. The book serves as an excellent introduction for professional new to the field as well as serving as a useful reference tool. The contributors are literally the pioneers of one of the last frontiers of addiction medicine and sex therapy. With a growing awareness of sex addiction as a problem, plus the advent of cybersex compulsion, professional clinicians are being confronted with sexual compulsion with little clinical or academic preparation. This is the first book distilling the experience of the leaders in this emerging field. With a focus on special populations, it also becomes a handy problem-solving tool. Readable, concise, and filled with useful interventions, it is a key text for a problem clinicians must be able to identify. It is destined to be a classic reference.

One crucial issue links domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual harassment and exploitation, cult membership, kidnapping and addiction: In a savage psychic twist, what hurts most often becomes compulsive. Victims bond with their perpetrators to the stunning point that they will die rather than leave or escape. "This book will create a new wave of understanding about sexuality and the dynamics in intimate sexual relationships." While traumatic bonding has long been recognized by the therapeutic community, Carnes’ breakthrough book focuses on how betrayal intensifies trauma and illuminates the keys to escaping destructive relationships. Blending the latest breakthroughs in both trauma and addiction work, this offers hope and healing.

Each of us has an “arousal template” that governs our sexual attraction and relationships. Developmental problems, trauma and abuse, family messages, and life experiences can significantly damage that template. Key to understanding how that template works is eroticized feelings such as anger, fear, and shame. |

Addicted to Sex
- A video about Sexual Addiction. This documentary is a rare uninhibited look at sexual addiction. A cross-section of sex addicts tell their stories honestly and openly, taking us from their first childhood sexual experiences through their worst act of compulsion to how they are recovering today. Interwoven with the testimonies, three sex addiction specialists discuss the history and treatment of this disorder. Some strong language. A good outreach tool. (Black & White, 58 minutes).=

The Circle Of Life workbook was developed to help with the basics of
recovery. A strong emphasis is placed on obtaining and utilizing a 12 Step
program sponsor. We stress attending sexual addiction support meetings and
developing a support system. The intention of this workbook is to work through
the 12 Steps with a sponsor to develop an understanding of a Higher Power who
will keep us sober (God as we understand God - our own concept of God).
The first three chapters give information on our addiction, seeking help for
recovery from sex addiction, the feelings that are associated with coming into
sexual sobriety, and withdrawal from active sexual compulsive behavior. Chapters
four through twelve are dedicated to working the 12 Steps.
